Okay, hobbys, yes.
BUT.
An impractical language does one of three things:
a) Writes illogical code, or has a bad format.
b) Is incompatible with alot of things.
c) Is just shit in the first place (e.g. it doesn't support Object Oriented programming, or it isn't powerful.)

Now, if a language is IMPRACTICAL, any one of those things will impair what you are trying to do, be it by coding at a slow pace or being simply incapable of what you want to do. Does this not IMPAIR your hobby of programming?

Well, GM8 could be practical if you want to, say, make a game to make the forums popular and stuff D:

Do it in an actually good language
Like C#, C++, Java, Flash, etc.

It's all about what you do with what you have. SSF2 and Crusade are prime examples of that. Even though SSF2 is using flash and Crusade's using GM, Crusade blows it out of the fucking water.

Regardless, Flash was probably a bad example. I would only consider it semi-powerful.

Here is my tier list of languages:

God-Tier:
C/C#/C++
Python, Ruby, Perl
Java

Mid-Tier:
PHP
HTML
Flash (specifically ActionScript)

Shit-Tier:
JavaScript
VB.NET
Game Maker

While your point is valid, MY point is that certain languages have more power than others..
C and C++ are unrivaled - you can do ANYTHING with those two. They build WINDOWS on C.
If we look at Game Maker, it, well...makes games. And it is easily outclassed by other languages.

Game Maker makes games. Of course it does, that's what it's there for. It's not made to be a jack of all trades, and it's pretty good at what it's there for.

Except that it gets outclassed by just about every other object oriented language out there.

By the way, that JavaScript I'm learning will be coupled with C# and Boo to make a 3D game that may outclass SSB.
